Capability

Full Custom Development

A product developed from the buyer concept, including tooling, for the small number of projects that justify the investment.

Can you develop a completely new product for us?

Yes, for funded projects with a volume expectation that justifies the tooling. It runs through four gates — concept, design and tooling, prototype validation, then pilot and certification — and NRE, tooling and development fees are paid before production rather than amortised.

01Fit

Who this is for, and who it is not for.

Suitable for

  • Brands with an existing product organisation and a multi-year roadmap
  • Projects where the platform genuinely cannot reach the required form or function

Not for

  • Projects still exploring whether the market exists
  • Buyers unwilling to fund NRE before seeing a prototype
02Scope

Included, optional, quoted separately, or not available

Defining the boundary up front is what stops a project drifting into repeated rework.

03Requirements

What the buyer must provide

  • A funded development budget agreed before work starts
  • An expected annual volume that justifies the tooling
  • A named decision maker empowered to freeze a specification
  • Acceptance of a staged gate process, with the right to stop at each gate
04Deliverables

What the buyer receives

  • A gated development plan with defined exit criteria per stage
  • Prototypes and validation records
  • Tooling, with ownership defined in the contract
  • A certifiable, production-ready product

KAW-KT-01

Pour-over Kettle

A gooseneck pour-over kettle designed for controlled flow, sized to sit alongside the grinder in a branded set.

07Buyers

Who asks for this

Distributors & Importers

Find a second or replacement brand with defensible margin, protected territory and supply that does not dry up mid-season.

08IP and confidentiality

Who owns what

Ownership is agreed in the development contract before work begins. Background IP remains with its original owner. Customer-funded foreground IP is defined explicitly, and where a customer pays for tooling in full, the tooling ownership and any transfer conditions are written into the contract. Development data is held under NDA and access is limited to the people working on the project.

09Commercial

Where the numbers come from

MOQ, lead time, payment and sample rules are maintained in the commercial terms and sample policy and are read from there, not restated per capability. Quotation currency is USD, default trade term FOB, valid for 30 days.

Development fee, NRE and tooling are paid before production starts and are not amortised into the unit price by default.

Platform-based ODM or full custom: choosing the right depth

Start from an existing platform unless the form or function genuinely cannot be reached any other way. Platform-based ODM covers colour, finish, configuration, calibration, accessories and packaging without new tooling, and only the residue needs a full development programme.
